Donations Needed for Fall Fundraising! -- Thursday August 8th, 2024

We are in need of items for our upcoming Fall fundraising events, for raffles and silent auctions. Items must be new. Suggestions below:

**Gift cards are highlighted because we can use these to purchase items to “fill in the holes” or to put together with other like items for a nicer basket. For example, one of our most popular collections of gift cards is Eat Out Once A Month for a Year. In this collection, we include gift cards for 12 different restaurants; none of the cards is for less than $50 and most are for $100. So, if you donate a $25 gift card, we will put it with another $25 or $50 card for the same restaurant.

AGR Needs More Foster Families -- Saturday June 15th, 2024

HELP! We need qualified fosters and adopters! Foster Benefits:  1) Can help reduce AGR's boarding bills for dogs that come in that need time to find an appropriate new home; 2) Can provide a place for a dog that needs to come in when the kennels are closed and we have no adopters yet, otherwise we may not be able to bring a dog in as soon as we would like; 3) Can help assess the dog's needs and provide our Placement and Vet teams with important information that is needed about the dog; 4) Can help dogs adjust by providing the love and emotional care that they can't get in a kennel; 5) Can know that you helped save a life and provided emotional (and medical care if needed) for that dog; 6) Will make new canine friends that will live in your heart forever; 7) Will often make new human friends when the dog is adopted, because you have usually talked to the new adopter and formed a relationship that often continues for years; 8) Can help determine the appropriate home for the dog, as nobody knows the dogs better than the fosters do; 9) Will learn a lot more about dogs and different types of behavior; 10) As a foster, will have the right to adopt the dog if you choose.  PLEASE CONSIDER FOSTERING!  Go to ADOPT on our website menu, then Adoption Overview and Application to fill out an application where you can specify your willingness to foster!

Paws At The Park Summary 2024 -- Sunday March 17th, 2024

Our Latest Event -  Paws at the Park 3/17/2024

Many WOOFS and WAGS to all the volunteers who helped with Paws At The Park in whatever way you did. It was a fun and fantastic event! We dodged the weather goblins – it rained on my way to the park at 8 AM, then the rain cleared out and we had a very nice day until around 3:30 PM. As we were packing up, the sky darkened and the wind came up, but we were able to get everything packed into the trailer and vehicles before it actually started to rain. We had the largest crowd we’ve had in years: 122 paid, 107 attended (if you paid but were unable to come, you can consider your registration fee a donation, which is tax deductible). And we had 252 paws on the ground (i.e. 63 dogs)! Denise Padavano and Jeanne Wegener did a fabulous job securing volunteer help – all volunteers are listed in Denise’s article on pages 36-40 of the May 2024 newsletter. The six young people who came from Coronado High School’s National Honor Society were just terrific in the morning. Next year, though, we need to get an equal number to come at the event’s end, as we could have used more help for pack-up. The food was wonderful, and the raffles and silent auction items were especially enticing with all the beautiful baskets prepared by Carolyn Brown. Near the end, we had the Parade of Rescue, an absolutely thrilling sight to see so many Goldens and Golden mixes proudly high-stepping to the tunes of “Rescue Me” and “Who Let the Dogs Out?” If you were unable to attend, please look for announcements about the date and place early next year and plan to come.
